Eadar 8mh agus 10mh den Shamhain, bha ar sgioba, air a dheanamh suas le Uilleam Goan agus Kyle MacIllFhinnean, a’ gabhail pàirt ann an Deasbad Nàiseanta nan Ãrd-sgoiltean.

Chosg iad seachdainnean air ullachadh airson na aid a bh’ aca; bha iad a’ deasbad mu càraichean a stuireas iad fhein agus cho feumail sa tha ionnsachadh anns an sgoil. Ged a rinn iad fior bha, cha d’fhuair iad dhan ath chuairt.

Bha a’ gabhail pairt a’ toirt misneachadh dhan dhithis aca, dithis a tha ag obair airson teastanas Ard-Ire fhaighinn am bliadhna, agus a-nis tha cothrom aca a theagaisg na sgoilearan as oige a bhith soirbheachail anns an deasbad an ath bhliadhna.

From Tuesday 8th to Thursday 10th November, the S5 Gàidhlig Debate Team, made up of pupils William Goan and Kyle McLennan, represented Dunoon Grammar School at Deasbad Nàiseanta na Ard-sgoiltean (The National Gaelic Debate for secondary school pupils) in Stornoway.

Weeks of preparation went into the two speeches; pupils debated on the ability of self-driving cars to keep the roads safe and how useful what we learn in school really is. Despite their best efforts, our team were knocked out on the second day of debates.

Participation in the debate has been a great motivator for the team, both of whom are currently studying Higher Gaelic and they will now share what they’ve learned with younger pupils in order to help them prepare for their debating debut next year.
